At Ashhurst School we are an enthusiastic, child-focused, eclectic group of people meeting over a “cuppa” to discuss how we can best “enhance our children’s learning experiences while at Ashhurst School”.  Our meetings are fun and informal.  Opinions and ideas are valued, with friendly debate encouraged. Ultimately we all want what’s best for our children!

Although fundraising forms an important part of what we do, being on the PTA offers a parent/caregiver a real opportunity to be more involved in your child’s education.  It is a way to meet other parents/caregivers and a great way to liaise with the school adding your perspective in a friendly team environment.

The Ashhurst School PTA has successfully worked as a two tier committee for a number of years now.  The first tier is the main core of members that discuss and initiate how to raise funds and more importantly how to filter money raised back into the school. We have a close and productive relationship with the school staff as well as the wider Ashhurst community.  The second tier is the people we fondly refer to as the “friends of the PTA”.  These are people who for whatever reason don’t wish to be committed to the PTA but are happy to put their hand up as and when the call for help goes out.

“Variety is the spice of life” although we continue with the tried and true ie sausages sizzles, school discos, pie sales, we are not afraid to try new things ie Art Auction, Ladies night, Barn dance.  So if you have any brilliant ideas (no matter how “out there”) please share, either by joining our meetings or initiating contact with a PTA member. Our fundraising efforts last year meant PTA was able to replace the school’s antiquated sound system.  We are working annually to upgrade and replace sports uniforms and gladly hep subsidise school outings and camp. We appreciate that in this day and age LIFE moves a lot faster and TIME is a precious commodity. It is for that reason that we organise events for optimum enjoyment with minimum fuss.

MEETINGS are held as and when needed but generally one and half hours every two months, starting at 7pm in the school staffroom.  Children are welcome and transport can be arranged.  Meeting dates are notified in the school newsletter.
NEW MEMBERS are welcome at all time, even if it is just for the odd hour here and there.  Coming to a meeting doesn’t instantly commit you to something you neither have the time or comfort to do.

We hope you will come and join us, even if it is just to have a look… the more the merrier.

Tash Simmons, Chairperson
