Ashhurst School Behaviour Process

Our main approach at Ashhurst School is to deescalate behavioural issues as quickly as possible. This requires quick key-questioning and decision-making under pressure. The model below is split into two sections that follow the key question "Is this behaviour safe?" Teachers are required to respond either Yes, or No. Throughout the management of the issue, the teacher remains as part of the problem-solving process. This does not mean that they are solely responsible for dealing with the issue, but they will have the most influential role in the learning and restorative process as well as ensuring the follow up after the issue is resolved.

Examples of when the behaviour is not safe (Emergency Intervention)

Possible Scenarios:

A student has become very upset and is throwing items in a classroom
A student is non-compliant and risks harm to themselves or others
A student is physically assaulting a staff member
A student is in the act of physically hurting another student
A student is verbally abusive disrupting the classroom environment

Examples of when the behaviour is safe (Navy & Royal)

Possible Scenarios:

When student/s have had an incident, the issue has ended but needs to be investigated
When students are non-compliant to a teachers instruction e.g won't do their maths. This does not affect the rest of the class
Verbal name-calling between students that is has happened but requires investigation
Children not completing learning
